Technical Explanation
Dissolved, suspended, and deposited - Degradation products can begin in a dissolved state, agglomerate into suspended contaminants, and ultimately accumulate as deposited varnish on surfaces. Each state requires a different removal mechanism.
Depth-media filtration - This is suitable for suspended contaminants and certain degradation products. It can be installed in an offline kidney loop, but the media has limited capacity and its condition must be monitored.
Electrostatic technology - This uses electrical charge to collect or separate small particles. Performance depends on oil chemistry, water content, and conductivity.
Resin and adsorption - These methods use media capable of adsorbing certain degradation products, particularly polar compounds dissolved in the oil phase.
Solubility management and chemical cleaning - When deposits adhere to surfaces, it may be necessary to increase solubility or use controlled cleaning chemistry, particularly in systems with severe deposit accumulation.

Impact on Machinery
- The wrong technology may improve MPC while bearing or valve problems remain
- Media may become exhausted rapidly if it is not matched to the contaminant load
- Equipment or services may be purchased without addressing the root cause
- The problem may return when treatment stops

Points to Consider
- Answer three questions: What must be removed? Where is it - in the oil or on machine surfaces? Why did it form?
- Evaluate oil chemistry and operating temperature before selecting media or technology
- Define post-treatment KPIs such as MPC trend, filter differential pressure, valve response, or bearing temperature
- Plan root-cause controls alongside contaminant removal

How Can SUTAIYO and Lubefix Help?SUTAIYO can assess the type and location of contamination before filtration or varnish removal technology is selected, and evaluate Mobil Lubricants if the existing oil is no longer suitable for service. Lubefix can perform filtration, oil purification, varnish removal, or cleaning according to the problem identified. |
